Shahrukh Khan in Billo Barber

Shah Rukh Khan knows how to promote his films, despite whatever Aamir Khan may say. Probably he has yet to come up with a marketing gimmick like the one Aamir did for Ghajini the trademark hairstyle, which every usher was sporting at certain cinema halls, but he really hard sells brand SRK in every which he can to promote his movie.

This time SRK is doing it for Billu, a film directed by Priyadarshan for the actor's Red Chillies Entertainment banner. Though the real protagonist of the film is Irfan Khan, it is SRK who is going to bring the crowds in. And he has ensured that they come in with his three hot item numbers that he has danced to with Bollywood's three beauties, Kareena Kapoor, Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone. He has managed to weather the storm raised by the Hair Dresser's Union that he should drop the word 'barber' from the title of his film as it was offensive. Even though the actor could not find anything offensive in it, he decided not to drag his feet over the issue and went ahead and dropped the 'Barber' from Billu Barber. Nursing a shoulder injury, for which he will be operated on later this month, the actor has refused to play mindgames with his arch rival and good friend Aamir Khan, though it hasn't stopped him from saying that he feels that maybe Aamir is going through a mid life crisis. He turned Aamir's famous statement about him not being a marketing genius but a PR genius on its head and is believed to have asserted that he is glad that he is a genius at something. With the IPL around the corner, the actor has very busy times ahead.

Ghajini Movie

Ghajini Movie Review :

Ghajini is the story of Sanjay Singhania ( played by Aamir Khan ) who is the owner of a Mobile service provider company. He is super rich(owns a private jet, always moves with 5 cars around him etc etc) and falls in love with an upcoming model Kalpana ( played by Asin Thottumkal ). All this happens in the past tense. In the present, Sanjay is an ultra muscular, salivating, screaming, wide/red eyed human(??) who is suffering from short term memory loss and whose memory span is only 15 minutes. He clicks photographs to remember what he was doing 15 minutes back and is searching for a Mr. Ghajini ( played by Pradeep Rawat ) whom he is supposed to kill. A medical student named Sunita ( who is apparently the dumbest Medical student in the history of world cinema) helps him achieving his goal.

Ten minutes into the movie and the horror of the upcoming disaster became apparent. Thankfully, Asin’s role is the only saving grace of the movie. She brings in stability and novelty to the almost-gone-out-of-control script. The portion of the movie which unfolds in the flashbacks is much more subtle and watchable. For the rest of it, you actually feel like watching an old Sunny Deol movie where he fights with the goons, revenging the love of his life.

Switching on my “logic” button, the movie took quite a few liberties completely banking on the we-go-to-see-movies-for-entertainment mindset of an average moviegoer. I can understand that showing Aamir’s body was essential and in sync with the story but why was a rich businessman folding the sleeve of his shirts till his armpits even when he is in his office was beyond me ( Aamir looked more like a don than a businessman ). Why would a Medical student go to a Don(Mr. Ghajini) and tells him that there is a man after him and he should be alert when she can see four of his goons standing behind him and might apply a little brain to understand that he is no saint either? Why won’t a woman run out of her house when the electricity fails and when she knows that there are four goons in her house ready to chop her? If someone is telling the whole world that the owner of the biggest mobile service provider company is in love with her, won’t she atleast Google it once to see what he looks like?

Hrithik Rings In 34th Birthday

Actor Hrithik Roshan turns 34 today. The actor has decided to spend a quiet birthday with his family and close ones. He and his family will be having a havan and pooja this morning at their residence. The pooja will be followed by a family lunch. Clearly, the Jodha Akbar actor, who is still recuperating from his knee injury, is no mood for celebrations.

Films were a part of Hirthik's legacy. What with his grandfather being the famous music director of yore, Roshan; his father Rakesh Roshan is an actor, his uncle Rajesh Roshan, a music composer, and his maternal grandfather, J Om Prakash, a film director. It was in that sense, a very filmy environment into which the young Hrithik was born and bred. He made his mark as a child actor itself when he gave a stellar performance in Bhagwan Dada and Aap Ke Deewane, both which starred his father as well. But it was in the year 2000, the new millennium, that Hrithik emerged as the superstar with the blockbuster Kaho Na Pyaar Hai, directed by his father. A star had definitely arrived and Hrithik bagged many awards that year for his debut venture. He went onto give a critically acclaimed performance in Khalid Mohammed's Fiza and Vidhu Vinod Chopra's Mission Kashmir.

The following year saw him deliver the first dud of his career, Subhash Ghai's Yaadein. But it was followed by Karan Johar's Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham, where he managed to hold his own against veterans like Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan and Kajol. The year 2002 proved to be a little unlucky for Hrithik as his films like Mujhse Dosti Karoge, Na Tum Jaano Na Hum and Aap Mujhe Acche Lagne Lage, flopped miserably. But he bounced back in 2003 with Koi Mil Gaya, again directed by his father. Farhan Akhtar's Lakshya followed and even though the film did not do too well, his performance as always, came in for a lot of praise. Hrithik took a two-year break before he bounced back with Krrish, a sequel to Koi Mil Gaya and Dhoom 2, a sequel to the earlier Dhoom. Now, all eyes are set on Ashutosh Gowarikar's magnum opus Jodha Akbar. Hrithik's strength as an actor has always been his superb body language, and his knack for getting into the skin of his character. There is absolutely no doubt that in his generation of actors, he is head and shoulders above the rest. We all would like to wish him a very happy birthday.!

'Ghajini' release at last confirmed..

The Bombay High Court has allowed 'Ghajini' to be released on Dec 25 (Thursday) even though the case filed against its producer for alleged violation of copyright is still pending in the court.

A little-known production banner, KBC Pictures, had filed a case in the court Monday, claiming that producer Madhu Mantena had infringed upon its copyright as it had acquired the right to re-make 'Ghajini' in Hindi.

Asking for the court's stay on the movie's scheduled release Dec 25, the counsel for the banner told the court that his client's re-make version of the movie was already on the floors under the title 'Kahani Ghajini Ki'.

According to Mantena, various brands being endorsed by actor Aamir Khan have joined hands to start a Rs.140-million promotional campaign, the costliest marketing campaign ever to promote a Bollywood movie.

While clothing brand, Van Heusen, has already launched its new 'Ghajini' apparel, the mobile instrument and accessories company, Samsung, has come out with two special edition mobile sets, L700 and M200. These two models are pre-loaded with 'Ghajini' ringtones, songs and pictures.

Mantena revealed that a series of 'Ghajini' merchandise would be available in stores across the country after the movie hits the screen Dec 25.

However, the producers have been asked to return to the court Dec 24, a day before the film's worldwide release.

'It's a rather sad misuse of the judiciary by people who have nothing better to do than harass others. Where do they get the time to indulge in such transparently fraudulent efforts? I mean, who had heard of 'Kahani Ghajini Ki' until now? I hadn't,' Mantena told IANS.

He said it was an 'insignificant case which will not affect the release of the film'.

'We're holding special previews Dec 24 before the release, but no premiere,' he added.

Producer Iqbal claims KBC Pictures made a film called 'Kahani Ghajini Ki' at a cost of Rs.100 million, and with the same storyline as 'Ghajini'.

Waiting for which Khan to win...

Depressed Shahid Takes Ups Smoking

This is just another of those side effects of love.

Shahid Kapur, who is known to be quite a fitness freak, has not only turned insomniac but has also taken up smoking in a big way following his alleged breakup with Kareena Kapoor.
According to unit members, the actor has almost become a chain smoker. The unit hands scolded him and some of them advised him to cut down on the cigarettes. Reports of his breakup with Kareena appeared right after the actor left for a month-and-a-half long shoot to Canada. Besides taken up smoking, the actor has also found a friend in co-star Vidya Balan. The two of them become good friends during the recent outdoor schedule of their film Kismat Connection. The actor apparently went into depression after reports of his break-up with Kareena hit the news stands. He found it very difficult to concentrate on his work. But Vidya is believed to have helped him come out of his depression to a large extent. When they were not shooting, they would spend a lot of time together. The actress would drag him for shopping and the unit members too took good care of him.

Vidya Throws a Fit on Sets of Kismet Connection

Generally known to be a very down-to-earth person, actress Vidya Balan surprised onlookers when she threw a fit on the sets of her film Kismet Connection.

Vidya refused to wear the clothes designed for her by Aki Narula, leading to a huge drama on the sets of the film. It is believed that Vidya hated the costumes designed by Aki so much that she even flung aside one of the dresses angrily on the sets. Aki, who is at his wit's end, is believed to have opted out of the film as he could not cope with Vidya's demands. Apparently Vidya had earlier gone on record to say that she was a fan of Aki's and then she suddenly starting finding fault with his designs. She felt they did not suit her image in the movie. This, despite the fact that Aki followed the brief that was given to him for the movie. According to sources, someone from the unit told the actress that she was not looking as glamorous as she was supposed to because of Aki's clothes. Of course, none of the parties are available for comments.

It also gave me the opportunity to work with two of my favorite actors, Rishi kapoor and Waheeda Rehman, and work on a wonderful script.”

Talking about Sonam Kapoor he stated, “She is very talented and a beautiful actress. She’s always smiling and I like that about her, it is wonderful to see that kind of confidence she has, because this is her second film and she was put in front of the camera with Om Puri and Rishi Kapoor and Waheeda Rehman. These are stall worth and I think the best in the business would be scared to stand in front of and to hold your honour in front of them takes a lot of guts and a great amount of confidence and talent.”

NEW DELHI: For some female celebrities, Shah Rukh Khan's moustachioed look in much-awaited “Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi” has not made any difference in loyalty. Others, however, feel he is better off without it.
Though this is for the third time that King Khan is sporting a moustache after “Army” and “Paheli”, he is receiving a mixed response for his 'ordinary man with moustache' look in "Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi", releasing on Friday.
“Shah Rukh definitely looks good without a moustache. He looks so good when he is clean shaven. Moustache looks good only on Jackie Shroff and Anil Kapoor because we have always seen them like that unlike Shah Rukh who is more like a boy next door,” supermodel Laxmi Rana said.
Shah Rukh has teamed up with newcomer Anushka Sharma in the movie, which is about a mismatched couple who find true love against the backdrop of a dance competition. Shah Rukh plays a middle class guy and his look is designed to suit his character in the film - he wears ill-fitting shirts and trousers teamed with sneakers. He also sports black rimmed spectacles.
His other look sees him clean shaven and sporting flashy, bright and trendy clothes.
Model Amanpreet Wahi has rejected both his looks in the film.
“I am not a Shah Rukh fan, but he surely rules Bollywood. Firstly, I think he looks good only without a moustache and secondly his weight loss is visible through the promos and he is not looking good.
“Women prefer macho men and he is not at all looking so in the way he has dressed for the film. His weight loss has done him no good,” Amanpreet said.
However, TV actress Ketaki Dave feels fans are not responding enthusiastically to Shah Rukh's new look because they are used to seeing him sans a moustache. “It will take time to get used to it,” she said.
Item girl Payal Rohatgi echoed the same: “I am a great Shah Rukh Khan fan and I love him in all get ups. The moustache look suits him for this role of a middle class husband but on a personal level, I do prefer him without it. His clean shaven look rocks.”
Riddhima Kapoor Sahni, daughter of veteran actors Rishi and Neetu Kapoor, put out her verdict straight - “With or without moustache, Shah Rukh is god!”
Even dusky beauty Chitrangada Singh, is all eyes for the actor.
“Shah Rukh looks good anyhow. I personally prefer him clean shaven, but he could even make a beard work as long as he looks long and hard in the girls' eyes,” she quipped.
Another lot of Shah Rukh fans including film critic Anupama Chopra doesn't believe in judging an actor by his or her looks.
Chopra considers moustaches and looks a very secondary consideration in judging an actor's capability.
“He looks different with a moustache, but it is not how I look and judge actors. That is just not the criteria for me,” she said.
Jackie and Anil are few of the handful actors in Bollywood today who can carry off a moustache with panache, apart from yesteryear actors like Raj Kapoor and Rakesh Roshan.

Meet Shahrukh Khan

Vaibhavi Merchant, who has choreographed for Shah Rukh Khan in Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi, has teamed up with him after four years. It was Veer-Zaara (2004) that she had last worked with him on a film set and Shah Rukh was 39-year-old then. But this ace dancer says that age has neither limited King Khan’s energy nor his enthusiasm to perform and learn new things.
“Shah Rukh is like wine, he only gets better with age. He is settling benchmarks for himself and others with every film. Look at Om Shanti Om what he has done to his body and looks. He is someone who always looks to push himself. I worked with him in Veer-Zaara four years before and these years haven’t really affected him at all. He is fitter and if I may say so a better dancer too,” says Vaibhavi.
She adds, “Shah Rukh puts in a lot of hard work while dancing. No one can match his enthusiasm and energy to learn and deliver new things. He is always ready to do something. He’s a bundle of energy. I’m not used to much rehearsal before taking the shot and Shah Rukh is like always rehearsing his steps till the last minute. Other actors might not want to exert himself or herself the way Shah Rukh does but that is how he is. He has a wonderful way of rehearsing. You will always find him (Shah Rukh) with a coffee mug in his hand and even while he’s doing his steps. When he is ready, he simply does it so smoothly that you wonder how easily he pulled it off.”
Vaibhavi adds that seeing Aditya Chopra and King Khan work alongside each other was a treat.
“If you are in a film that has a SRK and Adi combo, can you ask for anything better? They are always at ease with each other. They are more friends than professionals and it is this rapport that just weaves a magic. They are always into what they are doing. They are improvising, there is so much creativity at work that you enjoy being in there. It is this camaraderie that has created those lovely films (Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge and Mohabbatein in which Aditya Chopra was the director and Shah Rukh Khan the actor),” she says.
